Basketball Easter Camp Proves A Huge Success

“Glasgow City Basketball Club took the lead for the first year in hosting the ‘Shoot for Success’ Basketball Camp during this Easter break.

Run by ex-professional and Great Britain basketball star Willie Cameron, Shoot for Success strives to provide opportunities for young people to access basketball. The camps are held in memory of Willie’s friend James ‘Mick’ McKechnie, Scottish Basketball Legend and founder of Glasgow City.
Run entirely by volunteers, The Easter Camp took place at Eastbank Academy, Shettleston. The Tuesday and Wednesday sessions were dedicated to under 12’s with the Thursday and Friday given over to the 12-16s.  Our committed coaching staff took time off from their day jobs to ensure that each session was well staffed and packed with enthusiasm!   In keeping with our ethos of inclusion for all, the camp cost just £5.00 per day, offering quality coaching experiences and opportunities which were accessible for all.
49 bright and enthusiastic young people were put through their paces with the emphasis firmly placed on the fundamentals of the game. This camp introduced ‘Stations’, to enable our future ‘ballers’ to experience a full range of skill development and expert tuition. The afternoon sessions were rounded off with games to enable all to demonstrate their newly acquired skills.
The enthusiasm and excellent attitude of all ‘campers’ and coaches was tangible and ensured a positive experience for all.  We certainly hope that for those who had their first experience of club basketball, we have demonstrated an encouraging pathway to a fulfilling sport with opportunities for success.
