Community Development Team wins national award for outstanding community engagement

We are proud to share that our Community Development Team has won the Community Engagement Award at the 2025 Scottish Public Service Awards.

This national award celebrates the team’s hard work with the Govan Lyceum Development Trust to help protect the historic Lyceum Cinema. The team created a proactive plan to involve local people at every step. They listened carefully, shared information widely, and helped the community take action.

A key part of the project was gathering over 600 validated signatures from local voters. This helped secure Part 2 of the Community Right to Buy. This was an important step in keeping the building safe for the community.

Their work has supported older residents, strengthened local groups, and helped build skills and confidence in the area. It has also laid firm foundations for a future community-owned hub.

A huge thank you goes to our partners for their support and teamwork.

Partners:

  • Glasgow City Council
  • Central Govan Action Plan
  • Development Trusts Association Scotland

This success shows what we can achieve when we work closely with our communities and each other.

We also want to celebrate our BeWell+ programme, which was a runner-up in the Policy into Practice Award. This is a great achievement and shows the strength and dedication of teams across Glasgow Life.

Well done to everyone involved. You continue to make a real difference for people across the city.
