Kelvingrove wins Family Friendly Museum Award

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has been recognised as a Family Friendly Museum by Kids in Museums.

At an award ceremony in Birmingham on Monday (12 October), Kelvingrove was named as the Best Large Museum in the UK for going the extra mile to create welcoming, accessible and inspiring spaces for families of all shapes and sizes. 

Judged by families, who paid secret undercover visits to venues over the summer holidays, Kelvingrove was praised for the warmth of its welcome, engaging exhibits and fantastic free activities. They also applauded the hands-on object handling and creative activities for a range of ages and abilities.

Family judges said:

“Our toddler loved the natural history side of the museum, running to point out all the animals. The baby was fascinated listening to the organ recital in the Central Hall. Mummy and Daddy enjoyed a fun and relaxed visit with the kids, thank you!”

“A beautiful museum that manages to blend old-school Victorian grandeur with friendly, accessible and informative collections.”
