Message from our Chief Executive: Glasgow City Council budget 2026/27

Dear colleagues

You may have seen that Glasgow City Council set its budget for 2026/27 after agreeing a range of savings and income generation options at yesterday's full council meeting.

It is likely you will also read or hear more about these measures as they relate to Glasgow Life and the wider council family in the media over the coming months.

Glasgow Life is directly impacted by the budget-setting process. As our core funder, Glasgow City Council provides us with a service fee to operate venues and deliver programmes and activities on their behalf. These fees are a significant majority of our income every year.

Having reviewed our existing commitments to increase income in 2026/27, Glasgow City Council has agreed to us generating a further £800,000 across the coming financial year. A change to how people access Glasgow Museums Resource Centre (GMRC) and a temporary redirection of revenue funding from Whitehill Pool operations was also agreed.

All of Glasgow City Council's 2026/27 budget information can be viewed on the council's website. Should you have any questions about it, please raise these with your Line Manager or Head of Service.

Each day, more than 2,000 of you, supported by our volunteers, deliver the programmes, events and experiences that Glasgow's communities value and rely on.

We remain committed to enhancing the mental, physical and economic wellbeing of people across the city through culture, events and active living, and I'm confident we are doing everything we can to secure a positive future for our charity.

Thank you for your hard work and for the difference you continue to make across Glasgow.

Kay
