New Destination Marketing team will act as Glasgow’s voice to the world

A new city promotional body which will serve as Glasgow’s voice to the world has been given the green light by Glasgow City Council.
The Destination Marketing and Management Organisation (DMMO) will pull together expertise from across investment, marketing, tourism and the conference sector to help unlock Glasgow’s future potential. As well as attracting investment, business events and visitors to Glasgow, the new team will improve the promotion of the city to its own residents.
The DMMO has also been set up in response to calls from business leaders to better market the city’s strengths and assets under a consistent brand and from a single organisation. It will unite specialists from across Invest Glasgow, the Glasgow Convention Bureau and Glasgow Life’s Destination Marketing into a single team, which will sit within the council’s Economic Development service.
The proposal was approved by councillors at a meeting of the council’s City Administration Committee yesterday (Thursday 4 September). Earlier this week, Glasgow Life’s Board also agreed that consultation with our trade unions around the transfer of Glasgow Life colleagues working across conventions, tourism and destination marketing to the DMMO can now commence.
Glasgow City Council Leader, Susan Aitken, said: “Glasgow has incredible assets, chief amongst which are its people. Our culture and hospitality are world-class, we have learning institutions of international renown, a highly skilled workforce and cutting-edge economy, and we’re the gateway to Scotland. What we need to get better at is telling our story – to the world and, crucially, to our own citizens. The new DMMO will serve as the city’s voice to the world, uniting all those things which make Glasgow great under the one compelling brand.”
