Please return any unused laptops, PCs, and phones as soon as possible
Right now, there is a shortage of IT equipment across the council. If you have any council devices you are not using, please return them as soon as you can. We are working on an IT Refresh Programme to make sure everyone has the technology they need. But first, we need to collect and reuse any unused equipment.
What you need to do now
Please check your office and home for any council equipment you are not using. This includes:
- Laptops
- Hybrid devices
- Desktop PCs
- iPhones
This is especially important if you have not used a device for 90 days or more, it is locked, or if you are keeping a spare. After 90 days of not using a device, we will lock it and you cannot reuse it without extra approval. There is no benefit to keeping it.
Why is this urgent
Every unused device is one that another colleague could be using. We want to reuse equipment so everyone has what they need to do their job well. However, we can only do this if you return unused devices. New devices take a long time to arrive. So, returning what you are not using helps us get equipment to those who need it now.
Managers, please check if colleagues who have left or are away long-term have devices that they should return.
How to return equipment
Please email David Eccles to let him know which equipment you want to return. He may ask you to fill out the IT Equipment Collection Form in ServiceNow, which you can find using the search bar. When filling out the form, include the device type, asset number, and where it is currently stored.
Local monitoring
We are keeping track of this. If there are reports of unused or extra devices, we will share these with Heads of Service so managers know what is still outstanding in their teams.
Thank you for your help. By returning equipment now, you are helping colleagues work effectively and allowing us to move forward with our IT refresh.
