Events commitments

Each year, we ask all colleagues to get involved in our Colleague Engagement Survey. We want to know what’s going well, what could be better, and how we can better support you at work. Your responses help shape how each service area moves forward.
With the next survey coming up in September 2025, we’re sharing a short series of conversations with our Senior Leaders. Each one is a chance to hear how they listened to your feedback and what they’ve done since last year’s survey.
Each service area has its own priorities, challenges and successes. These interviews highlight what’s changed, what’s still to come, and how your voice has made a difference.
We spoke to Julie Pearson, Head of Events, to hear about the commitments her team has been introducing in 2025.
Hello Julie. What have your team been celebrating based on the results of the 2024 Colleague Survey?
We are taking the opportunity during team meetings to recognise and celebrate our wins as individuals and as a team and to acknowledge positive changes and innovation. We are using the event advocacy project and the new B2B website to highlight the team’s role and contribution to the successful delivery of events in Glasgow. We have identified forums and opportunities for members of the team to build relationships and engagement with industry to advocate for the work of the Events Team and the wider sector, while building experience and knowledge.
What areas are the events team improving on?
We are making use of Glasgow Life’s behavioural framework to shape and reinforce the way we interact with each other, being mindful of how our interactions with others can influence how they, in turn, experience work. We are looking at what changes may be made to improve our physical working environment and are ensuring colleagues have access to the information needed to do their job, encouraging more use of shared drives to ensure we know where to save/find information and share links to other one-off major event files.
What did the colleague survey results lead you to start doing?
We reviewed the frequency and approach to our Team Meetings to maximise the opportunity for all colleagues within the team to attend and contribute meaningfully. We are protecting and using team meeting times in the diary to provide time for team members to set up working groups and discuss ideas or issues, enabling collaborative working in the implementation of the Events Strategy, Service Plan and Sustainability (including EDI) action plan. We are identifying specific key areas of work aligned across the strategies and team commitments to provide colleagues with opportunities to volunteer for working groups in areas of interest or development, and to help clarify key decisions, inputs and deliverables across the team. We will finalise and share the Events Lifecycle.
