Tourism and Conventions commitments

Each year, we ask all colleagues to get involved in our Colleague Engagement Survey. We want to know what’s going well, what could be better, and how we can better support you at work. Your responses help shape how each service area moves forward.

With the next survey coming up in September 2025, we’re sharing a short series of conversations with our Senior Leaders. Each one is a chance to hear how they listened to your feedback and what they’ve done since last year’s survey.

Each service area has its own priorities, challenges and successes. These interviews highlight what’s changed, what’s still to come, and how your voice has made a difference.

We spoke to Aileen Crawford, Head of Tourism and Conventions to hear about the commitments they are building on in 2025.

Hello Aileen. What were the highlights from the 2025 colleague survey that your team has been recognising?

We want to celebrate building a team that works collaboratively, one that supports each other, and makes the best use of our abilities to ensure we all feel appreciated. The successful implementation and monitoring of the Glasgow 2030 Tourism Strategy, that launched in 2023 is a highlight for the Tourism team.   Conference business is doing well, its surpassing pre COVID levels, and the team brought home the Best UK Convention Bureau award for the 18th year! It’s important to regularly celebrate and recognise all of the team members successes, their hard work and what they achieve for our city.

So what are the areas your team is working on to improve?

We are making sure that our actions and communications align, especially when we are busy. Planning ahead and communicating well. We are keen to develop new learning opportunities in key areas such as social media and sustainability and to make more of Glasgow Life city events as opportunities for conference sales.

Has your team started working in different ways?

We are creating process maps and manuals to help us to be more resilient and we are moving towards a “buddy” system for important events to mitigate risk. We also want to ensure all team members can put their views forward.
