Building on their decade-long apprenticeship as Sigur Rós’s string section, Icelandic quartet amiina chart freshly distinctive territory between contemporary classical, chamber-folk, indie pop and electronica. Their live score to tonight’s screening of the 1913 silent movie Juve Contre Fantômas, a supernatural murder-mystery beloved of the pre-war French avant-garde, constructs aptly haunting soundscapes of violin, cello, drums, percussion, metallophone, table harp, ukulele and electronics. “A spooky, beautiful classical, post-rock cocktail” (Irish Times)

With inspirations ranging from pre-Soviet village music to experimental theatre, the strange but beautiful music of Estonian singer/violinist Maarja Nuut and electronic artist Ruum embodies their creative dialogue between ancient and modern, oral tradition and digital technology.
