with George Adams
Adam is a learning-disabled dancer who performs with Indepen-dance 4. This workshop explores the methods devised by his mentor George Adams to develop Adam’s choreographic process. The method has been used to support Adam in bringing clarity to how he communicates with dancers and how to manage studio time through the use of a ‘traffic-light’ card system.
The traffic light card tool is a simple way to allow someone without formal dance or choreographic training the opportunity to create a movement phrase or motif with dancers. It asks the performers to work with specific tools, characterisation, or dynamics in order to have a clear creative process with a beginning, middle and end. It is still in its pilot stage and has thus far been used twice - once at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA,Glasgow) as part of Adam’s sharing, and recently as part of an inclusive festival In Lancashire.
