Street Level Photoworks presents New Narratives in Photography – Pakistan, showcasing new work from Pakistan by artists Asad Ali, Hira Noor, Ume Laila and Waleed Zafar at Hillhead Library, Glasgow.
The artists have used photography in adopting socially engaged processes and exploring narratives of community, public space, identity and diaspora. Their work questions the archive, community and public space.
The artists took part in an international exchange in 2023/24 devised and produced by GRAIN Projects, UK and Tasweerghar, Pakistan, as part of the British Council’s Arts Residency Programme. The images in the exhibition are a selection curated from projects started during the residency and expanded following dialogue, mentoring and an R&D visit to the UK, which included Glasgow.
The exhibition at Hillhead Library marks the 20th anniversary of the twinning of Glasgow and Lahore in September 2006. Exhibitions at Hillhead Library are presented in partnership with Glasgow Life Libraries.
The exhibition is part of Season of Photography 2026, a celebration of photography in Scotland running from 1 September to 20 December 2026.
Free to enter. Open Monday to Thursday, 10am–8pm, Friday to Saturday, 10am–5pm and Sunday, 12–5pm.
