They say that Bach wrote his Goldberg Variations to soothe an insomniac nobleman. A simple melody unlocks a chain of 30 musical puzzles; brilliant, profound and endlessly fascinating, they’re one of those pieces that are bigger than the imagination of one performer, and there are as many different ways to experience them as there are musicians and listeners. Today, three of the RSNO’s string players come together for an encounter with one of music’s most beautiful minds.
