Summer Reading Challenge 2026

The 2026 Summer Reading Challenge will run from Saturday 20 June to Sunday 9 August, and this year’s theme is ‘Read to the Beat’!

Packed with stories, music, creativity, and fun, children can read 6 books or complete exciting new goals like attending library events, listening to audiobooks, reading comics, or sharing book reviews. Every activity keeps the rhythm going all summer long!

Look out for music and craft events in libraries across the city throughout the Challenge.

The challenge is open to readers aged 4–11, they can collect stickers and prizes as they work through the Challenge and earn a certificate when they complete it!

Little ones aged 0–3 can enjoy a special mini challenge filled with shared stories and playful discovery.

It’s a fun way to keep children reading, creative, and entertained over the holidays!
