The Encontro Street Band Festival presents an evening of spectacular stage performances, featuring:
Paraiso School of Samba
All the glitter & glitz of authentic Rio carnival, directed by musicians who grew up immersed in Rio's samba community.
Massed Band Extravaganza
Over 250 players perform Honktwister - an original composition by Jo Zanders (VelotroniX) and Marcus Britton (Oi Musica) for massed horns & drums.
Dodgy Carpet Carnival - International Youth Collaboration
Created, directed & performed by young people from SambaYaBamba Youth Street Band (Glasgow), Banda Alana (São Paulo), Jubacana (Manchester), Jack Drum Arts (Durham), Pulse of the Place (Edinburgh) plus guests! Funded by the British Council Scotland and Young Start.

The headline slot is reserved for Glasgow's very own be-kilted SambaYaBamba, who will delight audience with their uproarious blend of drums, brass and Glasgow sass!

Now in its second year, The Encontro Street Band Festival is a spectacular weekend-long celebration of street band music! Bringing 25 UK and international bands to the streets of Glasgow, the festival boasts a packed programme – including 2 days of captivating pop up outdoor performances in and around the Merchant City.
Featuring all flavours of street drumming, carnival brass, marching band, New Orleans jazz, Afro-Brazilian percussion, straight up samba and more – plus extravagant costumes, awesome dancers, artistic collaborations and massed youth bands – the festival brings the spirit of hot dusty streets at carnival time right into the heart of Glasgow!
