No gimmicks, no grand concept: UAINE ( “green” or “verdant” in Irish) consists of four exceptional and highly esteemed musicians, bonded by musical affinity and mutual admiration. Donegal fiddler Bríd Harper, ex-Lúnasa guitarist Paul Meehan, Carlow singer Lisa Butler (formerly of Caladh Nua), and Limerick’s Tony O’Connell on concertina simply make sweet, sweet music together, brimming with expression and vitality, as heard on their 2019 debut album, The Dimming of the Day

“New tunes, bright ideas, deep respect, music as fresh as the first flush of April grass” (Irish Music Magazine

Continuing her artistic exploration of mass Irish immigration to Scotland in the early 20th century, Glasgow-based fiddler/composer Gráinne Brady (Top Floor Taivers/Routes Quartet) – herself an emigrant from Co. Cavan – again draws inspiration from novelist Patrick McGill, an autobiographical chronicler of the period. Part reframed musical narrative, part imagined soundtrack, Newcomer meshes bold ideas, diverse instrumentation, spoken word and original songs to powerfully evocative effect.
