School Work Experience
Please read the information and discuss it with your teacher before you apply.
Glasgow museums offer school work experience for fourth year pupils. This lasts for 4 or 5 days and will give pupils an insight into different jobs within the museum. Pupils will have the chance to shadow staff and assist them with tasks and activities.
Work experience is available at the following venues:
- Gallery of Modern Art
- Glasgow Museums Resource Centre
- Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
- People’s Palace
- Riverside Museum
- St Mungo Museum and Provand’s Lordship
- Scotland Street School Museum
Please note that we offer a joint week-long placement between People’s Palace (3 days) and Scotland Street School Museum (2 days). This is to ensure a variety of tasks and experiences. Pupils will therefore be required to travel to both these venues to participate in their placement.
Placements will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is given to Glasgow schools, but schools out with Glasgow can apply.
The placement timings are:
- 10am – 3.30pm on your first day
- 9.40am – 3.30pm every other day
All pupils will be given an induction on the first day. This will cover general conduct, health and safety and lunchtime arrangements. It will also be an opportunity for staff to find out what the pupil’s aims are during their work experience.
Additional support needs
Pupils with additional support needs will be sent an extra questionnaire. This will allow us to find out more about the pupils’ needs. We will adapt their placement. We can offer a shorter day for pupils with additional support needs if required.
