Five swimming pools to extend opening hours as Springburn and Tollcross refurbishment continues
Glasgow communities are set to benefit from extended opening hours at five popular swimming pools across the city.
Glasgow Clubs North Woodside, Pollok and Easterhouse will open on Saturdays, making it easier for families and young people to enjoy swimming and gym facilities at the weekend. Two further venues, Glasgow Clubs Castlemilk and Drumchapel, will extend their opening hours to include Saturdays from early 2026.
Glasgow Life, the charity that leads culture, events, and active living in the city, confirmed the extended hours have been made possible following funding from Glasgow City Council to specifically deliver weekend opening.
The investment has supported the recruitment of additional Glasgow Club fitness and pool team members, enabling each venue to timetable more hours with a focus on Saturday sessions, which is traditionally the busiest time for families and young people.
From Saturday 22 November, the opening hours at Glasgow Club North Woodside will be:
· Monday and Thursday, 3pm-9pm.
· Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am-4pm.
· Saturday, 9am-4pm NEW.
From Saturday 29 November, the opening hours at Glasgow Club Pollok will be:
· Monday and Tuesday, 2pm-8pm.
· Wednesday to Friday, 10am-4pm.
· Saturday, 9am-4pm NEW.
From Saturday 6 December, the opening hours at Glasgow Club Easterhouse will be:
· Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9am-2.45pm.
· Tuesday and Thursday, 2.30pm-8.30pm.
· Saturday, 9am-4pm NEW.
Glasgow Life continues to invest in the city’s swimming facilities, including significant refurbishment programmes at Glasgow Club Springburn and Tollcross International Swim Centre. This work will ensure both venues reopen ready for swimmers and spectators and prepared to serve Glasgow’s communities and major events for years to come.
Work to upgrade the pool plant, filtration and boiler system, and changing village at Springburn is progressing well, with the completely refurbished venue due to open late summer 2026.
Following the refurbishment and reopening of the 50m warm-up pool at Tollcross International Swim Centre in March, work to carry out essential repairs began on the main competition pool earlier this year.
This includes upgrading the spectator seating stand, refurbishing plinths and pool channels, modernising the filtration system, and re-tiling. During this time, all existing pool groups, including public swim sessions, have been taking place in the 50m warm up pool.
Once the main pool was emptied and detailed diagnostics carried out, the need for additional essential work was identified. To ensure Tollcross continues to provide a high-quality swimming experience and can serve as a major competition venue for local, national, and international events, the main pool will now reopen in spring 2026.
Alan Milner, Head of Sport at Glasgow Life, said: “Families and young people have told us how much they value the opportunity to use our facilities at the weekend, and these new hours will help meet that demand. We are committed to investing in swimming provision across the city. The refurbishment of Springburn and Tollcross pools will ensure they continue to meet the needs of our customers and local communities, while also allowing Tollcross to host major swimming events in the future.”
