Kelvingrove tennis courts are getting a £161,000 refresh

Over £161,000 is being invested in the tennis courts at Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow Life has announced.

The refresh will see a 2G synthetic grass surface installed with sand. A new asphalt base will help improve the drainage and make sure the courts have a more consistent bounce.

Wooden kickboards are also being fitted to help stop balls from rolling under fences. Parts of the bowing in the fence line will also be repaired as part of the refurbishment.

The works will start on Monday 23 January and are scheduled to run for seven weeks. Extreme weather or temperatures may affect timescales.

Bailie Annette Christie, Chair of Glasgow Life, said:

This refresh highlights our commitment to investing in sporting venues and improving people’s lives through sport. These are just two reasons why Glasgow is the 2023 European Capital of Sport and the first city to be awarded the accolade for a second time.

Taking part in sports like tennis is a great way for people of all ages to improve their mental and physical wellbeing. The new and improved courts at Kelvingrove offer the perfect venue for people to get active and experience the life-changing benefits of sport.

Anyone who wants to play tennis during this time can use the other courts Glasgow Life runs across the city. You can book a court using the Glasgow Club app or by visiting the ClubSpark website.
