About
BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
Thursdays and Sundays at Glasgow City Halls
Following its 90th birthday celebrations in 2025/26, join the BBC SSO for its new 2026/27 season with big-hearted blockbusters, inspiring collaborations with the UK’s leading choirs, dazzling performances by world-class soloists, and music inspired by the orchestra’s nine-decade history.
The orchestra has a well-established Thursday Night Series at Glasgow City Halls (7pm), as well as an Afternoon Performance series on Thursday and Sundays (2pm).
All concerts are recorded for BBC radio (with many of them broadcast live across the nation on Radio 3!) and occasionally filmed for BBC TV and iPlayer.
The orchestra performs timeless classics alongside bold new commissions with Chief Conductor Ryan Wigglesworth, Principal Guest Conductor Delyana Lazarova, Creative Partner Ilan Volkov, and a host of world-class guest conductors. The orchestra also has a strong legacy of pushing musical boundaries through its annual Tectonics Festival each May, curated and founded by Ilan Volkov.
The BBC SSO also leads creative learning projects that inspire imagination and connection with families, schools, and communities across Scotland — nurturing the next generation of music-makers and music-lovers.
Celebrate 90 years of Scotland’s national broadcasting orchestra — live at Glasgow City Halls!
