Place at the Table
Food, drink and Scotland's identity
Whilst Glasgow is in the international spotlight during the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, leading chefs, food writers, television broadcasters and cultural figures will gather for Place at the Table, part of the Merchant City Festival that celebrates the city’s diverse food culture and explores Scotland’s relationship with Commonwealth nations.
Familiar faces including Andi Oliver, presenter of the BBC’s Great British Menu; broadcasting legend Kirsty Wark; poet, playwright and Scotland’s former Makar, Jackie Kay CBE; and renowned US historian Dr Jessica B. Harris, whose book High on the Hog inspired her Netflix series of the same name, will use food to explore Scotland’s place in the world.
'Place at the Table' is a collaborative initiative between the Oxford Cultural Collective, Glasgow Life and the Beniba Centre for Slavery Studies at the University of Glasgow.'
