Celebrating ESOL success at Ibrox Library

Seven dedicated learners have celebrated completing their Beginner English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class at Ibrox Library. Their hard work and commitment mean they are now ready to progress to the next stage, Elementary Level ESOL, this August.

ESOL classes help people whose first language is not English to build confidence and develop the skills they need to live, work and study. Learning English not only supports everyday life, it enhances it, helping people connect with their community and take on new opportunities.

The learners took part in online group work in the library. They practised IT skills and brushed up on past simple verbs. All while talking about their weekend activities. Some already had library cards, and five more signed up after discovering the extra benefits of our libraries.

The atmosphere was lively and upbeat, with one learner sharing:

“Today’s class was a little different. We used the computers. We took pictures. We are happy. Also, we have a certificate. Hooray!”

There was also a special moment for learner Joaquina. She not only advanced from the Starter to the Beginner level this year. She also began volunteering at her local hospice charity shop. And to top it all off, she shared the fantastic news that she is going on to study ESOL at Glasgow Clyde College.

Congratulations to all our learners. Their achievements show what’s possible with perseverance and community support.
