Celebrating the success of our West Scotland Youth Ambassadors

The West Scotland Youth Ambassadors Programme helps young people across Glasgow learn how to: use their voice in their local community, share their ideas for change, and work with decision-makers to create real change for young people in the city.
The young people involved learn how to research something they care about, talk to others about it, and present their ideas to decision-makers. It’s all about helping them feel more confident, learn new skills and have a voice in shaping the world around them.
After a year of hard work, five Glasgow Youth Ambassadors have received a special award. The Level 5 Certificate in Participative Democracy. This award shows they’ve gained teamwork, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
On Thursday 5 June, Glasgow Life’s youth work team held a celebration event at St Francis Community Centre. It brought together young people from Glasgow and the West of Scotland who took part in the programme.
The Youth Ambassadors chose to look into Religious and Moral Education (RME) lessons. They asked pupils what they thought and came up with some strong ideas:
- Pupils should help shape what’s taught in RME.
- There should be more information about different religions and cultures.
- Lessons should include more on real-life social issues.
Their hard work is already paying off. They’re now working with Glasgow City Council’s Education Services to make these changes.
This programme isn’t only about learning. It’s about helping young people grow more confident, feel heard and make a difference.
