English Pathways to Employment: introducing our eight community interpreter trainees
Our English Pathways to Employment programme helps English learners build practical job skills. As part of this, the Community Interpreter pathway trains local residents to help people access vital services.
Recently, eight trainees completed their community interpreting qualification. They are now ready to put their new skills into practice through hands-on work experience.
Supporting seven languages across Glasgow
The team provides in-person, phone, and Microsoft Teams interpreting. They also provide written translations for community groups across the city. They currently support seven languages:
- Arabic
- Farsi
- Kurdish Sorani
- Punjabi
- Romanes
- Slovakian
- Urdu
Making an impact in our venues and communities
Our new interpreters have translated resources across our services. They have also:
- Supported drop-in events with our Family Finances Key Workers.
- Assisted with focus groups for the Library Community Language Review Group.
- Supported refugee events with GoMA.
- And helped the Be Well team and NHS Mobile Skills Unit deliver community health activities.
