Get into the reading groove with the Summer Reading Challenge!
The 2026 Summer Reading Challenge runs from Saturday 20 June to Sunday 9 August. This year's theme, Read to the Beat, celebrates the rhythm of stories, music, imagination and creativity!
Alongside reading books, children can now complete brand new goals such as attending library events, writing reviews, listening to audiobooks and exploring comics.
Children aged 4-11 can sign up at their local library and collect stickers and prizes as they complete books and activities throughout the summer.
When they finish the Challenge, they'll earn a certificate to celebrate their achievement. For little ones aged 0-3, there's a special mini Read to the Beat challenge designed to encourage a love of stories through shared reading and play.
We'll also be hosting plenty of fun music and craft-themed events in libraries during the Challenge. It's a fantastic way to keep children reading, learning and having fun all summer long.
