Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games venues update

A person in a colourful unicorn mascot suit is jumping in the air in front of a large industrial crane beside a river

Following our last update on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, we want to provide clear information about the impact on our venues. The Games will use:

  • Scotstoun Stadium
  • Glasgow International Arena (formerly Emirates Arena)
  • Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome
  • Tollcross International Swimming Centre
  • Gorbals Leisure Centre

As we mentioned before, these venues will close for a short period during the events in July and August. We also need some extra time before and after for setup and cleanup. The exact closure dates will be different for each venue, depending on the event schedule. We have worked hard to keep these closures as short as possible to reduce any impact.

Now that the Games venue planning is complete, we can confirm the opening and closing dates. You can see these for each venue below. We don't expect these dates to change, but if anything does, we will let you know.

How will our venues benefit from the Games?

We've worked with Glasgow 2026 to get our venues ready. They've received major investment, all at no cost to the city or our members.

Some improvements might not be obvious right away, but they make our facilities better and help us bring in extra income. This means we can reinvest more for our members and community in the future.

What does this mean for our customers?

We will close these venues to the public for a short time during specific event dates in July and August. Closures may begin shortly before each event for set-up and end shortly after for clear-down. Exact closure periods will depend on each venue's schedule. We'll keep closures as short as possible to reduce any impact.

Our venue teams are looking for ways to help customers stay active during closures and are working to move as many activities as possible.

No matter what dates we confirm, we'll give everyone as much advance notice as we can, so they have time to adjust their plans.

What does this mean for colleagues working in competition venues?

Venue management will work with teams at each venue to talk through the impact of closures. If you have any questions, please contact your line manager or venue manager.

How can everyone keep up to date?
