Glasgow Life team crowned Parkinson’s Scottish Cup champions

We’re thrilled to celebrate an incredible achievement. The Glasgow Life Parkinson’s team triumphed at the inaugural Parkinson’s Scottish Cup on Saturday 7 June, at Glasgow Green Football Centre.
Part of the world’s largest one-day walking football event, the tournament marked a milestone as the first standalone Parkinson’s competition. Our team rose to the occasion with courage, teamwork, and no shortage of passion.
Over 900 players from 92 teams joined this unforgettable day of sport, community, and inclusion. But it was the Glasgow Life team that lifted the Parkinson’s trophy, cheered on by friends, family, and teammates. MSP Maree Todd and football legend Peter Grant presented the team with a medal, a moment our players won’t soon forget.
For those involved, the impact goes well beyond the pitch.
Robert McLachlan, 65, spoke of the joy of being part of a team again, “Playing for the Glasgow Life Walking Football team rekindled all the fond memories of participating in team activities.
“Walking football has given me a focus. My body sometimes hurts, but that’s nothing compared to the return of the smile on your face and the laughter ringing in your ears.”
Gary Murray, 37, shared how the game has helped him feel less insecure. "It’s made me feel less insecure about how I look to others. The support from everyone has been amazing, and the friendships I’ve made have been great.”
Gordon Morris, 70, called it a “new lease of life”. And Gordon Cameron said, “Playing in the biggest Walking Football competition in the world is something I’ll never forget.”
Congratulations to all involved. A shining example of what sport, community and determination can achieve.
