Glasgow Life Youth Team honoured with Govan Community Alcohol Partnership
Congratulations to our Youth Development Team on their award-winning work with the Govan Community Alcohol Partnership. This community partnership has been named Scotland’s CAP (Community Alcohol Partnership) of the Year for its work supporting young people.
The Govan Community Alcohol Partnership received the honour for its efforts to reduce underage drinking, promote alcohol awareness, and deliver positive youth engagement. CAPs are community-led schemes that bring together police, schools, retailers, and community groups to address the harms of underage drinking and improve health and wellbeing.
The Govan partnership was launched in 2025, with partners meeting regularly to support young people in making informed choices about alcohol and related risks.
One of the projects highlights was a youth engagement event at Govan High School. Nearly 200 young people took part in the interactive session covering alcohol awareness, vaping, anti-social behaviour and future opportunities, including careers and volunteering. By combining education, outreach and positive activities, partners are helping young people to make safer choices while building stronger relationship between services and the community.
Key members of the Govan CAP include Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Glasgow Life, the Govan Youth Information Project and Govan High school. Representatives from each had the pleasure of attending the House in Commons in London to receive the award, presented by Minister of Health and Social Care and MP for Southwest Glasgow, Dr Zubir Ahmed.
