Helping young people thrive with the National Entitlement Card
You may have spotted our colourful poster and billboards around the city last month, raising awareness of the National Entitlement Card (NEC) for young people aged 5 to 26.
This free card gives young people aged 5 to 21 free bus travel across Scotland, as well as access to a range of exciting discounts and rewards including:
- Discounted train travel (1/3 off single and return journeys and 50% off weekly, monthly or annual tickets)
- 1000s of discounts at retailers and venues across Scotland
- Proof of age
- Proof of identity to open a bank account
- Earning points for volunteering
Our Glasgow Life Youth Development team help young people across the city to apply for and access their National Entitlement Card and all the benefits it offers.
During 2024/25, over 11 million journeys were made by Glasgow cardholders across Scotland using an NEC, equating to over £35 million pounds saved by young people. This works out at over £600k savings per week for Glasgow cardholders.
If you have someone at home who would qualify for the card, you can find out all you need to know and how to apply on our website at glasgowlife.org.uk/NEC.
You can also help us spread the word to our customers by letting them know that they can apply for the card online or at their local library.
