Dr Jo Meacock, Curator of British Art at Glasgow Life Museums, has been awarded a British Art Network bursary as part of their EXPLORE - CONNECT - SHARE - SUSTAIN programme.

She will visit London to explore rare printed and archival resources at the V&A, British Library, National Gallery, Paul Mellon Centre and University of London for her book project Pre-Raphaelites and Scotland: Landscape, Medievalism and Romance (forthcoming 2027/28). The book will firmly resituate Pre-Raphaelitism, a movement often seen as a purely English phenomenon, within Scotland and Scottish culture.

Jo has been with Glasgow Life Museums since 2012 and is responsible for paintings, sculpture, prints and drawings in the collection dating from 1600-1960.

Jo said: "I am very excited and grateful to receive this support from the British Art Network which means I can explore archival material not accessible in Scotland and bring new perspectives to my research on the many connections between the Pre-Raphaelites and Scotland".

The British Art Network has been able to support 46 project this year, with bursaries of £300 to £1000. Congratulations to Jo on securing her bursary to support research for her new book.
