Death, dying and grief

Death, dying, and grief are natural parts of life, but each person goes through them in their own way. Many people are not ready for the challenges of loss.

We have gathered some resources and support to help you face the challenges you may experience.

Information and support

NHS Inform offers information to support you in the early days after a death and helps you know what to expect next. You will also find practical advice and support to guide you through your grief.

Specialist organisations

Many organisations provide information and support to people affected by death, dying, and bereavement.

Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief, is an alliance set up by the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care in 2011. It has brought together information and support for people in Scotland.

Bereavement Charter for Scotland

Understanding grief and bereavement at work helps us build a caring and supportive culture. We know that creating this environment supports those grieving, and everyone in our community.

We are working towards the Bereavement Charter Mark for Scotland. This will make sure we recognise grief and support colleagues at work. We want to encourage open conversations, reduce stigma, and prioritise wellbeing. This will help everyone feel safe and supported during loss.
