Wellness Action Plan

This August, we’re focusing on practical, proactive support for mental health by introducing the Wellness Action Plan (WAP) — a simple, personalised tool that supports wellbeing at work.

We all have mental health, just like we all have physical health. And just as we take steps to protect our bodies, it’s important we do the same for our minds.

Whether you're thriving, struggling, or somewhere in between, a Wellness Action Plan can help you:

  • Understand what supports your mental wellbeing

  • Identify early warning signs of poor mental health

  • Think about what steps or adjustments help you stay well

  • Start positive conversations with your manager or colleagues

It’s voluntary, confidential, and tailored to you. It’s not just for those experiencing mental health challenges — it's for anyone who wants to stay well, especially in changing or demanding work environments.

What is a Wellness Action Plan?

  • A practical, personal tool to support mental health at work

  • A way to reflect on what keeps you well and what might affect your wellbeing

  • Useful for everyone — not only those with a diagnosed mental health condition

  • A helpful guide during changes, such as returning to work or adjusting to hybrid roles

It’s based on trusted frameworks from Mind and SAMH, leading mental health charities in the UK.

How to Get Started

  • Set aside time to complete your plan thoughtfully

  • Reflect on challenges, triggers, and what helps you manage them

  • Use the plan to start open conversations with your manager or team

  • Review it regularly — it’s a living document that grows with you

We’ve also included helpful prompts and definitions to guide you through, including:

  • What helps you stay well at work

  • Early signs of poor mental health

  • Strategies and support that make a difference

  • Manager tips for supporting their teams

Why It Matters

Our ways of working continue to evolve, with more flexibility, hybrid models, and team-based dynamics. This brings opportunities and pressures that can impact how we feel.

Taking time to understand and manage your mental health isn’t just good for you — it can lead to:

  • Improved focus and productivity

  • Stronger working relationships

  • Greater job satisfaction

  • Reduced risk of burnout and stress
