HR Commitments

Each year, we ask all colleagues to get involved in our Colleague Engagement Survey. We want to know what’s going well, what could be better, and how we can better support you at work. Your responses help shape how each service area moves forward.
With the next survey coming up in September 2025, we’re sharing a short series of conversations with our Senior Leaders. Each one is a chance to hear how they listened to your feedback and what they’ve done since last year’s survey.
Each service area has its own priorities, challenges and successes. These interviews highlight what’s changed, what’s still to come, and how your voice has made a difference.
We spoke to Steph Colgan, Head of HR to hear about her team’s commitments for 2025.
Hello Steph. What have you and your team been celebrating in 2025?
Across the team we achieved a positivity score of 95% that we intend to be working for Glasgow Life in 12 months’ time from the survey. We are continuing to focus on our career and professional development and are seizing all opportunities to enhance our knowledge.
What was important to you and your colleagues to improve?
The time we invest together as a team. We reviewed the regularity and structure of our meetings, and everyone contributes by bringing meaningful discussion topics, using our shared knowledge and driving continuous improvement across the Human Resources Service Area. We now have designated time for each part of the HR Team to share key information, highlighting ongoing and upcoming work.
What has the HR team set out to do?
One of our lower scoring questions (86%) was around having the information to do our jobs well. To ensure we are thoroughly aware of everything that is going on, we proactively share our insights and priorities from Employee Relations, Resourcing & Equalities, Learning & Development, HR Information, and the Business Partner function on a regular basis.
Team members have opportunities to attend local seminars and conferences, and employment law updates, and are attending relevant internal courses and capitalising on informal learning and development opportunities.
We are inviting colleagues from across Glasgow Life to input to our team meetings, and we are regularly visiting and working from venues too.
