Ward 12, Phase 1, That One I See Eyes

The artist show a participant the large brightly coloured hand printed banner they helped create. The banner is green and orange with geometric patterns.
These photographs were taken in an instant, a moment caught in time. These photographs are works of art and make our small worlds bigger, endless.

As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 12, Victoria Park, Elena Mary Harris delivered That One I See Eyes, a creative, ward-wide project designed to connect the area’s distinct and often disconnected communities through shared artistic activity.

Elena worked with a range of groups across the ward, offering the same creative process to each to build a sense of unity and structure. Participants constructed their own pinhole cameras using 35mm film, each capturing 24–36 exposures of things important to them in their lives.

The resulting body of work, with over 1,000 personal photographs, became a catalyst for conversation, inspiration, and further creativity. Using these images, participants created individual stencils for screen printing.

Although each person designed their own screen, they collaborated to print a 20-metre-long textile wall covering. Involving around 100 participants, this unique artwork became a record and a celebration of shared experiences made by and for Victoria Park.

“Working across the disparate communities in the area, we used pinhole photography to create a body of over 1000 photographs. It was these photographs that became the centre of conversation and inspiration to screenprint a unique 20m textile that is both made by and for Ward 12: Victoria Park.” Elena Mary Harris
