Ward 14, Phase 1, The Role of the Serendipiter

Love the Irn Bru fence. Love it all – but that’s my favourite!
As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 14, Drumchapel/Anniesland, WAVEparticle’s Director Peter McCaughey delivered The Role of the Serendipiter, a creative investigation into the stories, spaces and histories that shape the local landscape.
What began as a simple mapping exercise evolved into the development of a permanent art trail following the 7.5 km Drumchapel Way. The route, which tracks the edge of the area and intersects the ancient Roman Antonine Way, linked past and present through site-specific interventions, celebrating both heritage and local identity.
While the trail celebrated the ward’s recent history, from tower blocks and the water tower to an Irn Bru fence, community engagement centred on Drumchapel’s Roman heritage. During D in the Park, a major local festival, residents participated in clay sculpture, stone carving and flag-making workshops. These hands-on sessions encouraged reflection on place and participation in shaping its cultural narrative.
