Ward 17, Phase 2, Sculpture for Springburn

As part of  Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 17, Springburn, Mandy McIntosh explored the area's overlooked design heritage through research into public sculpture and civic artefacts.

Following Phase 1, Mandy continued researching the area's visible design history, focusing on public sculptures and civic artefacts. This work culminated in the creation of a printed Sculpture Trail publication, inviting local residents to explore and creatively respond to these often-overlooked landmarks. The trial included information on each object, with prompts for reflection and making.

Mandy distributed 40 art packs containing the trail and creative materials to pupils at Springburn Academy in partnership with the school's art department. This was followed by in-person outdoor workshops held along the trail, working closely with a core group of ten pupils.

Mandy also partnered with Beatroute Arts' Allsorts group and delivered four online creative workshops. These collaborative sessions resulted in a three-minute animated video that combined participants' ideas and responses.
