New Gaelic Heritage Group opens to new members
January 2026

Glasgow Life is inviting Gaelic community members to join its new Gaelic Heritage Group and help shape its shared Gaelic Arts and Glasgow Museums programmes. This group brings together volunteers with an interest, expertise, or lived experience in Gaelic culture to act as a sounding board for new projects, and help champion Gaelic heritage across the city. The group will meet a few times each year, supported by Glasgow Life staff.

Bàrd Baile Ghlaschu - Glasgow’s Gaelic laureate crowned
January 2026

Author Niall O’Gallagher has been awarded the title Bàrd Baile Ghlaschu - Glasgow's Gaelic Laureate - once again. Niall won the role when it was first created in 2019, and returns to it this year. The role has been revived with the support of Glasgow Life and the Gaelic Books Council, to coincide with the Royal National Mòd 2026 in Glasgow.

Niall O’Gallagher is the author of three poetry collections with a verse-novella, and a novel in prose for children, in preparation. He is the winner of several major awards including the New Writers Award, an Ignite Fellowship from the Scottish Book Trust / Gaelic Books Council, and the Bardic Crown at the National Mod in 2023. Niall is currently Gaelic Writer in Residence at the University of Edinburgh.
