Enjoy a filmed round-table discussion with festival directors past and present, followed by the chance to share your stories to camera. Join us to celebrate 40 wonderful years of the Glasgow Jazz Festival.

This event will explore how the Glasgow Jazz Festival has evolved and endured through changing times by discussing what it has meant and come to mean for the people of Glasgow and further afield by presenting the very best of homegrown and international jazz acts across the city’s live music spaces.

Directors past and present, who have steered the Glasgow Jazz Festival it through its various incarnations from its first edition in 1987 to the present day will take part in a round table discussion

The festival’s story will be told through charting its development and the many highlights across the years, delving into the challenges presented by sometimes difficult circumstances, and exploring the hopes and aspirations for the future of this key fixture in Scotland’s cultural diary.

The event will be hosted by Professor Haftor Medbøe, Chair of the Scottish Jazz Archive and the audience will be encouraged share their impressions and memories of the festival alongside those of its directors.

Format:

  • A filmed round-table discussion with festival directors past and present in front of a live audience (1 hour).
  • Followed by a social event in which SJA will capture individual memories through short individual interviews to camera while the audience will have the opportunity to mix and share stories and reminiscences with one another.

Additionally, SJA will provide a QR link to an online space where individuals can continue to share memories following the event in a variety of formats.

This event is supported by Sauchiehall Street: Culture and Heritage District.
