Throughout 2013, the leading Scottish author James Robertson challenged himself to write a story every day, each 365 words long. A couple of years later, Lau fiddler Aidan O’Rourke embarked on a musical counterpoint, resulting in his own 365 compositions, written daily in response to Robertson’s collected pieces. Working with Mercury-nominated jazz pianist, harmonium player and one-time church organist Kit Downes, he released 22 of them in 2018 as 365: Volume 1, and they revisit the project again here, with Robertson himself reading the words that inspired the music. “It's as if Debussy and Ravel were orchestrating Scottish folk - truly beautiful” (Songlines)
