As a three-piece, The Gutenbergs (from Perthshire) play original songs steeped in the style and ethic of the 70’s songwriters and the articulate country-rock they forged. Gutenbergs’ gentle, evocative songs rise out of specific pieces of writing – chiefly short stories – which the band re-make as ‘new things’… Gutenbergs songs can live as they are, rich in vocal harmony and tantalising glimpses of other worlds, or they can lead the listener back to the characters and original writing that inspired them – Scott Fitzgerald, James Joyce, Lorrie Moore and Alice Munro among others. Readings from their works are part of The Gutenbergs’ show which becomes about the links between the melody and the inspiration. The show aims to share a lyrical vision of song and story and a strong faith in the value of coming to great writing, now more than ever…
