Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in Scotland
but it’s treatable and curable when diagnosed early.
Bowel Cancer UK’s Early
Diagnosis Programme – in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde -
brings together health providers and community groups to raise awareness of the
symptoms of bowel cancer, encourage screening uptake and empower people to see
their GP if they have any symptoms.
Currently, only 60.3% of eligible people in NHS Greater
Glasgow and Clyde complete their bowel screening test, compared to a national
average of 65.2% – the lowest uptake of any health board in Scotland.
Bowel screening helps spot bowel cancer before symptoms start, when it’s more
treatable – that’s why it’s important that everyone between the ages of 50 and
74, who receives their free bowel screening test in the post, completes and
returns it as soon as possible.
Bowel Cancer UK are hosting regular awareness stands in libraries across in Glasgow at:
• Mitchell Library on Tuesday 10 November 2026 from 10.30-12.30
• Gorbals Library on Thursday 26 November 2026 from 1.30-3.30
• Riddrie Library on Monday 14 December 2026 from 10.30-12.30
Pop by and visit any of the stands to speak to their friendly volunteers about the common symptoms of bowel cancer, the importance of early diagnosis, simple steps for good bowel health and the bowel screening test.
