In the early hours of New Year’s Day 1919, HMY Iolaire, carrying soldiers returning from war, struck rocks as the vessel approached Stornoway harbour on the Isle of Lewis. Over 200 men lost their lives in the wreck and nearly every family on the island lost loved ones.

This event presents three short films inspired by the story and legacy of the Iolaire disaster, featuring introductions and Q&A sessions with filmmakers, writers and featured artists.

‘Dàn’
Peter Mackay talks about Iain Crichton Smith's poem "Tha thu air Aigeann m' Inntinn" and what it means to him

‘Tha thu air Aigeann m’ Inntinn’
Animated short by Catriona Black, with an Introduction by and Q&A with Catriona.

‘Teàrnadh’
A powerful short film about the tragic Iolaire disaster, presented by Julie Fowlis and Duncan Chisholm.

Followed by a Q&A with Teàrnadh writer Colin McDonald and cast members Iain Macrae and Douglas Yannaghas.
