Glasgow favourites Cherish the Ladies have performed thousands of concerts circumventing the globe during their 36 years and these powerhouse women have recorded 18 critically acclaimed albums along the way. During lockdown, band leader Joanie Madden managed to assemble the group together to join forces along the Wild Atlantic Way in County Clare to record a special socially distancing concert for Celtic Connections featuring the outstanding musicianship of Joanie Madden (flute, whistles, harmony vocals), Mary Coogan (guitar), Mirella Murray (accordion), Kathleen Boyle (piano), Nollaig Casey (fiddle) and Lunasa’s Trevor Hutchinson (upright bass). The fabulous voices of Kate Purcell, Don Stiffe, Bruce Foley and Seámus Ó’Flatharta along with the fantastic dancing of David Geaney and Seámus Ó’Flatharta round out the troop for a concert that is sure to tick all the boxes!
Westward The Light is a vessel that brings together an expansive knowledge of Scottish folk music and culture, creating a new expression of an age-old sound. On fiddle, viola, vocals, piano, and guitar, the quartet's music is reflective of upbringings immersed in the nature and landscapes of Scotland. The band formed as a result of years of collaboration in a range of settings, and features Charlie Grey, Sally Simpson, Owen Sinclair and Joseph Peach. 2020 marked the release of their debut album, with the hotly anticipated release coming at the start of the band's third year together.
*This performance will be available to watch for one week after the live date to accommodate different time zones.
