Connecting the Caribbean, New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta, French trio Delgres explore the human and cultural history embodied by its lead singer/ guitarist Pascal Danaë, the son of Guadeloupean immigrants. The band are named for a Creole colonel who died resisting Napoleon’s recapture of Guadeloupe and his reintroduction of slavery: Danaë’s own great-great grandmother was born a slave. Many Guadeloupeans’ ensuing flight to Louisiana contributed significant French-Caribbean influences to early jazz and blues, a heritage that Delgres, also featuring drums and sousaphone, simultaneously honour and bring thrillingly up to date.
“A propulsive blend of growling American blues, Crescent City rhythms and circling island folk themes” (New York Music Daily)
