Display: Glasgow's Commonwealth Games 2014

A colorful collage featuring Glasgow-themed imagery. In the foreground, a cyclist wearing a red helmet and a white Team GB jersey raises one fist in celebration with their mouth open in a triumphant shout. Behind them are detailed black-and-white illustrations of historic buildings, including a large cathedral and an ornate civic building. A black silhouette of a crane bridge spans the lower middle of the image, while part of another athlete's face appears at the bottom right.

In 2014 the city came together to celebrate the Commonwealth Games.

During that historic summer, the Mitchell Library collected ephemera like leaflets, posters, newspapers, badges and fabulous foam hands!

For 2026, staff from Mitchell Library Special Collections have curated a selection for a small commemorative display.

Come along and share your memories in our visitor book.

There will also be an opportunity to view some of the ephemera of 2026.

Find us in the level 5 foyer.

/ɪˈfɛm(ə)rə/
Ephemera refers to collectible items originally created for short-term, everyday use that were never intended to be preserved. Derived from the Greek word ephēmeros (meaning "lasting only a day"), the term covers a vast array of transient materials that offer a unique, authentic window into the culture and history of their time.
