Making music for a good cause.

The European Doctors Orchestra is a symphony orchestra made up of doctors across Europe, who in their free time are musicians who perform to the highest level. 

The Orchestra performs at least two public charity concerts a year, with the aim of celebrating and enjoying music but also to benefit charity projects (usually related to health and well-being). 

We are delighted that the Orchestra’s next performance will be in Glasgow. Musicians from around 12 different counties will perform music by Dvořák and Brahms at an evening dedicated to friendship and featuring a special encore with a Scottish twist! 

The theme of friendship is reflected in the evening’s programme. Both of Antonín Dvořák’s works were inspired by his long-time friend and mentor Johannes Brahms : Dvořák’s dark seventh symphony, inspired by Brahms' third symphony, and his uplifting Slavonic Dances, inspired by Brahms' Hungarian Dances.

 Whilst Brahms’ beautiful double concerto was composed for his old friend Joseph Joachim in the hope of repairing their strained friendship which had fractured after the latter’s divorce. Fortunately, his concerto seemed to have the desired effect! 

For their Glasgow performance, the Orchestra will be raising money for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) who provide unwavering care to children with life-shortening conditions, as well as their families: www.chas.org.uk.
