Producer and author Joe Boyd (Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Fairport Convention) will take the Celtic Connections audience on a vivid journey through the evolution of global music, based on his book, And the Roots of Rhythm Remain. He will show a selection of rarely-if-ever-seen footage from around the globe: Kate Bush with the Trio Bulgarka, Taj Mahal with Toumani Diabate, Ravi Shankar with George Harrison, Paul Simon with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and much more. From Havana to Calcutta, Boyd unveils the cultural and political forces driving this global exchange, revealing how jazz, rhythm and blues and rock ‘n’ roll would never have happened if it weren’t for the notes and rhythms emanating from over the horizon.

Boyd's remarkable career spans six decades; this is an unmissable exploration of how the world's musical landscape was forever altered.
