Following her bravura festival debut in 2018, Montreal-based Grenadian/Canadian singer-songwriter Kaia Kater returns to Celtic Connections for the UK launch of her stunning third album, Grenades. Kater’s father fled Grenada aged 14, following the 1983 US invasion, and the new record, blending shades of pop, soul, Caribbean, Québécois and Appalachian music, reflects her own search for identity while confronting “the legacy of lineage, of broken family trees, of immigration.”
The product of a childhood steeped in progressive politics, Nashville-based singer-songwriter and fiddler/banjo player Rachel Baiman – half of celebrated duo 10 String Symphony - brings contemporary folk virtuosity and compelling eloquence to the art of the protest song.
