Lady Blackbird has made a powerful return with her latest album, Slang Spirituals, released on BMG. Following a sold-out residency at Los Angeles’ Sun Rose and an electrifying performance at Chaka Khan's Meltdown Festival in London, she showcases her soul-jazz prowess in tracks like "Reborn" and "Let Not (Your Heart Be Troubled)," which have gained support from BBC Radio and Jazz FM.

Produced by Chris Seefried, Slang Spirituals captures the singer’s unique sound, blending emotive, deeply personal lyrics with cinematic vocals. Raised in a Christian household in New Mexico, Lady Blackbird faced struggles with her identity as a queer woman, which she channels into the album’s themes of empowerment and self-discovery. From gospel to folk, the record spans a range of genres, reflecting her journey of transformation.

Gee (vocalist and songwriter) and Jay (producer and multi instrumentalist) met in Harringay London when the pair were working as baristas in a music café. They quickly went from jamming on the café’s old piano to crafting their own distinctive style of music. Gee's strong, soulful and emotionally-charged vocals fit perfectly on top of Jay’s vintage jazzy chords and groovy rhythms, whilst the saxophone adds a further element to the melodic mix. During lockdown, the pair left the capital city and headed to Bournemouth, where they now reside.  With two EP releases and an album What's the Sun Without the Rain? under their belt, GeeJay have managed to amass over 12 million streams and have garnered widespread critical acclaim from the likes of The Guardian, Fearne Cotton (BBC Radio 2), BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, Jack Saunders, and CLASH to name but a few.
