Moxie are an Irish band who have spent the last decade pushing traditional music somewhere new. Their show brings together the music that built their reputation, including tunes from the RTÉ Folk Award nominated The Dawn of Motion, alongside new material from their third album, Atlantean.
Audiences can expect a set that moves between atmospheric, slow building passages and big, driving tunes, with acoustic instruments and electronic textures sitting side by side. The Irish News called their sound “a swirling, almost cinematic sweep through the global electronic and acoustic landscape”, which is close to what the live show feels like. It will appeal to trad audiences and to anyone who enjoys music that crosses borders.
Dara Dubh takes the Irish harp somewhere it’s rarely been. Raised on sessions and the Fleadh in Ballycastle, Co. Antrim, and now based in Edinburgh, she plays the harp as the lead voice rather than background colour. She drives it with live looping and bodhrán, and her three-piece band of drums, bass and keys pulls in jazz, blues, rock and hip-hop.
