Nevis Ensemble is a brand new Street Orchestra for Scotland, bringing 70 performances to communities across the country during Glasgow 2018.
We will take our energetic 40-piece orchestra, pop up and surprise commuters first thing in the morning, make guerrilla-style appearances in swimming pools, and even perform at the summit of Ben Nevis.
With the theme of Movement, and conducted by Holly Mathieson and Jon Hargreaves, the orchestra will draw musicians from Scotland, London, Amsterdam and Berlin, performing everything from Rachmaninov, to Radiohead, a few Reels thrown in, and a brand new commission from award-winning composer Matthew Grouse.
Today's appearances:
- Kelvin Hall, Argyle Street, Glasgow, 10am - 10:45am
A morning performance in one of Glasgow’s key sporting and cultural centres, looking even more impressive after an extensive renovation. - Riverside Museum, Pointhouse Place, Glasgow, 12:00pm - 12:45pm
A performance at the spectacular Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum overlooking the Tall Ship, the Clyde and over to Govan. - East Pollokshields Quad, Nithsdale Road, Glasgow, 5:30pm - 6:30pm
A community performance, with food, fun and frolics in this hidden park behind Pollokshield’s Nithsdale Road. - All The Young Nudes, location TBC, Glasgow, 8:15pm - 9pm
A life drawing class with a live orchestra. What better way to finish Nevis’ first tour. Come with an artistic disposition, and perhaps even some of the orchestra might be willing to model.
